Tatihou Island

One of Sam & kids’s favorites. 50 minutes away. Ideal on a sunny day.

One can first go to Barfleur for a moules/frites ; Barfleur is a cute port 7 minutes away from Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, which is the departure point of the boat for the Tatihou island. On the island one can go up the impressive Vauban tower dating back to the 17th century, and also visit the museum telling in a lively way about Franco-english naval wars at the time of Louis XIV. This building itself is the ancient hospital that welcome the sailors quarantined there before they could rejoin the continent. Many had brought seeds from their journeys around the world and planted them on the island where these exotic species still flourish.
